For our second year, we are taking on 2 big projects!
Project Dark Ride
We are in the process of building an interactive model dark ride! With a Camera mounted onto a track, viewers will be able to see all of our set pieces, animatronics, and lighting sequences to feel like they are in a beautiful underwater world!
Project Ride Vehicle
Putting our design skills to the test, a few of our members are working on a model-sized ASTM compliant roller coaster train. This model will be manufactured using 3D printing, machining, and electronic systems!
2024-2025 Project
We are proud to have completed our very first project: a model roller coaster!
We presented our project at Engineering Expo as a pneumatic launch demonstration to teach kids about roller coaster physics!
The Launch
The Launch utilizes a pneumatic air system for launching the roller coaster train forwards. This series of pumps, holding valves and a pneumatic cylinder let us emulate real launch systems used on full sized roller coasters.
The Track
Carefully designed and calculated, the track gives an optimal view of all of the elements from the front of the viewing platform, and demonstrates conservation of energy. The track itself is tubing laying on a 3D printed form.
The Design
Through different interactive features, we have been able to capture Madison from state street to Bucky Badger himself. Each of these pieces was designed using a CAD software and brought to life from laser cutting, 3D printing, painting, and more!
